Samantha Samuel is a director in the commercial financial services group at Guidehouse. She has 20 years of combined experience in providing forensic, investigative, and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)/anti-money laundering (AML) compliance services to a variety of domestic and international financial institutions, fintechs, and money services businesses (MSBs). Since joining Guidehouse in 2004, Samantha has provided BSA/AML/Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) services to a variety of clients including domestic and international banks and financial institutions. Samantha also has significant experience in providing forensic accounting, investigative, and project management services for a variety of public and private entities. Samantha has been involved in a collection of BSA/AML-related services and projects for domestic and global financial institutions including wholesale, commercial and consumer commercial banks, and MSBs. Samantha has extensive experience assessing and monitoring the customer due diligence programs for clients including adherence to U.S. and international regulations and better practices. Samantha also assisted with the identification, testing, and remediation of gaps within the customer due diligence programs of financial institutions. Samantha conducted and assisted in the documentation and drafting of AML/OFAC risk assessments as well as products- and services-focused risk assessments. Samantha has also assisted in independent testing, gap assessments, and monitorship engagements for various domestic and international financial institutions and financial technology companies. Samantha participated and managed several engagement teams involving complex accounting and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reporting issues. Engagements included indepth review and analyses of accounting records, company practices, historically filed financial statements, and independent auditor workpapers in the face of potential fraud allegations. Several engagements included assisting clients in the restatement of the historically filed financial statements related to various SEC and Department of Justice (DOJ) sanctions.
